U13 Div3 Corkbeg 4 – 3 Mallow United A
Another good win for the team this weekend, the scoreline not reflecting the dominance of the home team.
The Beg started well and took the lead with a great goal from Hugh O Lionsaigh. This was followed up soon after, when Liam Barry got his name on the score sheet from close range and we went in 2 up at half time .
Mallow kicked off the 2nd half and immediately, Shay Rooney made a superb interception raced down the left wing and calm as you like finished to the keepers right – 3-0 up and in total control.

However, Mallow did start to get more into it and pulled one back to cut the gap to 2. But then came the move of the game and a contender for goal of the season surely, as brilliant interplay from Shay, Hugh, Alex Jaworski and a brilliant finish from Conor Padden restored the 3 goal cushion.
Things got a little uncomfortable from here, a good clearance from Aaron Colbert led to a speculative effort from long range that found the top corner. Next up, a penalty was given against us for a harsh handball shout and now we were feeling the pressure.
In fairness, the lads rallied and should have been awarded a penalty ourselves for a stone wall handball, but it was waved away. But we saw it out and the lads were deserving winners.

Elsewhere, Corkbeg U-11s played Churchvilla in Whitegate on a glorious Saturday afternoon.

Corkbeg U-8s travelled to Cobh on Sunday afternoon to play some exciting games against Springfield, while the U7’s were in action in Little Island against Leeside.
