U-14Div3 – Riverstown ‘A’ 2 Corkbeg 2

Bizarre incident as honours are even in Glanmire!

Corkbeg U-14’s travelled to Glanmire on Sunday morning to face Riverstown ‘A’ on nice day for a match.

The Beg started the match slowly and found themselves behind after 5 minutes. The Beg regrouped and started to play and soon found themselves level after good pressure and Daniel Downing found himself in the clear to finish well in off the post to make it all square.

Corkbeg were on the front foot and could easily have added a few more goals, with Andrew Murphy and Cormac Walsh going close from set pieces. The goal finally came before half time when Matthew McSweeney (pictured) scored with a thunderous volley into the back of the net.

The second half started in a bizarre fashion. Corkbeg tipped off for the restart, but within 40 seconds, the Beg had let a goal in. Riverstown were celebrating, the Beg were crestfallen but it was then that we all realized the referee had gone to the toilet at half time and was not on the pitch, so the goal was disallowed and Corkbeg were off the hook.

The second half was all Riverstown ,as Corkbeg soaked up the pressure and just as we thought we would hold on to all the points Riverstown equalized with 3 minutes to go for a deserved draw.

Very proud of the 15 boys who played and we’re off the mark in the league. Well done all.
