U-14Div3 – Carrigaline ‘A’ 2 Corkbeg 3

On Sunday afternoon, the Beg travelled to Carrigaline for the second time in three days. This time league points were at stake. We had already secured our place in the next round of the cup on Friday against the same opposition.

The game started in frantic fashion. In the blink of an eye, we hit the front, with a well taken goal from midfielder Matthew McSweeney (pictured). This was after great work at the back from Fionn and Andrew to keep Carrigaline at bay.

No sooner had our celebration finished Carrigaline had the ball in the net to make it 1-1.

As the game settled Corkbeg had created more chances by Sean and Eanna only to be kept out by some fine Carrigaline goalkeeping. The lads really took the game to the opposing team, lead by Finn, Mattie, Eanna and the hard working Sean Crowley. All the good pressure resulted in another Matthew McSweeney goal to put us 2-1 up.

Once again, Carrigaline hit back with another equalizing goal goal.

With Cormac and Josh flying, the boys kept the tempo up. Matthew then hit the post and just before half time, he hit the net again to complete his hat-trick make it 3-2 at half time.

The second half was pretty even, with both sides creating chances. Conor was excellent at the back and the beg battled hard. Not even the ref stopping the game to speak with one of the coaches ( DOD ) over a VAR decision 😉 could stop us in our tracks.

Half time substitutes Ewan and Kieran were working hard and winning their fair share of ball. Goalkeeper Josh Foley was excellent in goal throughout. There was one last free kick from the home side, which whizzed past the post to the delight of the players, coaches and supporters.

The final whistle blew shortly afterwards and a well deserved three points were on their way back to Whitegate . All the players emptied the tank which was very pleasing to see. Well done to the boys on a fantastic result.
