U-12Div 4 – Riverstown ‘A’ 1 Corkbeg 1
The Corkbeg U12’s took on Riverstown A on Sunday at the GACA grounds in Glanmire on what seemed to be a much smaller pitch than the lads are used to.
Both teams had a strong performance in the first half. Corkbeg had a few chances at goal but up against a very strong goalkeeper, they got no result. No goals scored from either team at the half time whistle.
Corkbegs goalkeeper Alex Jaworski and their defenders made sure of this, Aidan, Robbie and Kaylan were very strong in the back line.
Five minutes into the second half, a good ball through-ball got Shay Forde (pictured) in on goal and he put the ball in the back of the net.
Corkbeg held on to the lead for most of the second half, but were unfortunate to concede a goal with 7 mins to go.
The lads fought to the end to try to get the winning goal. They continued to push forward and Shay Forde looked set to score a second goal, but was taken down by the goalkeeper in the box. No penalty was awarded which was very disappointing.
The result was a corner taken by Conor and gave the Beg their last chance to score with a great attempt on goal from Jack, who played tirelessly throughout.
But the goal wasn’t to be and the game finished all square. Great effort by all the lads today.
