U-12Div – Midleton ‘A’ 0 Corkbeg 3

Corkbeg U-12s continued their good form with a brilliant 3-0 win away to title challengers Midleton ‘A’ on Tuesday night.

Corkbeg were rewarded for some decent early pressure, when Shay Forde burst on to a great through ball from Hugh O Lionsigh to round the Midleton goalkeeper and roll the ball home. He had earlier been denied the opener by a fantastic point blank stop from the Midleton goalkeeper. Both Shay Forde and Jake Morrissey put in huge shifts up front and never stopped running all night.

Midleton passed ball well, but were well marshalled by a firm Corkbeg defence, where Aaron Colbert, Aidan Johnston and Robbie Oosthuizen were outstanding all night long. When Midleton did get past the resolute Corkbeg defence, goalkeeper Kaylan Cunnigham was quick off his line to make two great close-range blocks; one crucial one before half time kept Corkbeg a goal up.

Early in the second half, Corkbeg doubled their advantage and again, it was Shay Forde who did the damage after some good work from Conor Padden to poke the ball past the Midleton goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

As expected, Midleton had to throw caution to the wind and kept Corkbeg on the back foot. But, with Jack Cahill absolutely outstanding protecting the back three and Conor Padden fighting for every ball, Midleton only lived on half chances and once again, Kaylan excelled when called upon to make some decent saves.

Near the end, the excellent Hugh O Lionsigh (pictured above) broke from midfield to slot past the Midleton goalkeeper to put the icing on the cake at 3-0, while some brilliant defending at the other end, ensured that Midleton couldn’t grab a consolation goal. The 3-0 win means Corkbeg remain in the hunt for league honours.
