U-12Div4 – Corkbeg 2 Lakewood ‘A’ 4

On a blistering sunny morning, Corkbeg U12’s took on Lakewood Athletic ‘A’ in Whitegate, in what was essentially a league decider game.

Both teams worked hard in the heat, but at half time Corkbeg were two goals down and up against it. Unfortunately, we ultimately left ourselves with too much to do. We did however, make good fight of it in the second half and scored two goals ourselves.

The first goal was a cracker from Conor Padden (pictured above) late in the second half to bring the game back to 2-1. But unfortunately for us, Lakewood came back with another goal to make it 3-1.

Then, with only 10 mins to go, Shay Forde found an opening and put another one away for Corkbeg. 3-2 and game on!!!

But, Lakewood are worthy champions and retaliated with a fourth goal and despite a few chances Corkbeg couldn’t beat the Lakewood keeper again. The final whistle blew, with all the lads on both teams absolutely exhausted from the heat

Final score : Corkbeg 2 Lakewood 4.

With one match still left to play against Mallow, the Corkbeg U12’s will be looking to secure second place in the table in that game and promotion would be a great reward from a tough division. Huge credit is due to the lads for mounting a massive title challenge this season, but the combination of three tough games in 7 days and the scorching weather on Sunday morning, unfortunately proved to be a bridge too far for them.

Congratulations to Lakewood, who deservedly captured the U-12Div4 league title as a result of grabbing the three points this morning; they were the better team on the day.

Corkbeg Squad: Alex Jaworski, Aidan Johnston, Robbie Oosthuizen, Kaylan Cunningham, Aaron Colbert, Jack Cahill, Conor Padden, Hugh O Lionsigh, Shay Forde, Tim O Driscoll, Jake Morrisey and Conan O’Leary.
