U-12 Cup – Corkbeg 3 Grenagh 0
Corkbeg U-12s played Grenagh in the cup in Corkbeg on Wednesday night….the Beg were missing some key players but some tactical adjustments and the strength of squad showed as the homeside dominated the game from the start.
The Beg took the lead early on; Shay Forde made a mighty burst through the Grenagh defence sending a thunderbolt strike into the top corner of the net.
Straight off and no time to settle, the Beg pressed high again and it was Forde, using his trademark pace, to break down the right side cutting in, firing a shot from an acute angle to make it 2-0.
Again the Beg attacked, but Grenagh made a counter attack and great positioning from Robbie Oozthuizan at centre back blocked the attempted shot and got the ball clear.
2-0 at halftime and the Beg resumed the game with the same workrate and intensity as they started. Some fantastic passing between Hugh O Lionsigh and Kaylan Cunningham exposed the away sides defence again, but Corkbeg were unlucky on that occasion.
Again, Shay Forde attacked from deep in midfield; bursting down the right hand side, skipping past players, cutting in to force the keeper to make a save and was there for the rebound to tap into the net.
Grenagh nearly got a consolation goal late on when they got through the home sides defence to get a clear shot on goal but it went narrowly wide.
A superb performance from Corkbeg U-12s again. Jack Cahill, Connor Padden and Hugh O Lionsighs trojan efforts in midfield made this night really difficult for Grenagh.
The lads are really starting to shine now. Again their attitude is brilliant and look forward to the next league game next Sunday away to Riverstown
