UII CSL Div 6 Corkbeg 0 Churchvilla 0
A beautiful Saturday morning , The beg pitch looking like the new Aviva after the recent up grade and a great local derby against our rivals from Cloyne . The scoreline might suggest otherwise but this was always an interesting spectacle which could have gone either way up to the very end. In general, defences were on top and chances were hard fought for – the midfield exchanges were tough but fair and both sides tried to knock the ball around on the deck. The beg lost influential defender Arron Berry early on when he twisted his knee and this meant a reshuffle with Gavin Kelly taking over at sweeper. Churchvilla shaded the first half and it took some good defending by Gavin and Matthew Kidney to repel the cloyne attackers. In the second half the beg upped the game and Dara Murphy started to drive the team forward – Jordan Tynan and James Gilroy were linking well in attack. The beg had the ball in the net after a sweeping move down the left started by Niall Hill but the ref deemed Jordan Offside as he slid home Conor Moloneys Cross shot. Luke O Connell made a couple of vital saves to keep the score sheet clean. So 0-0 at the finish and it was just about right – we must travel to Cloyne for the away match which was postponed earlier in the season – so we will be looking forward to resuming our battle with the Villa in Kilboy in the coming weeks. Thanks To Jason and Churchvilla for a sporting game.
