Damien Kerins took his talented U-12 squad to Little Island on Sunday afternoon for this excellent pre-season tournament. First up for the lads was the hosts, Leeside winners of last seasons U-11 Local Cup. A titanic battle which finished 0-0.
Next up, was a lively Passage side, but goals from Tom Walsh and Josh McCarthy got Corkbeg into the semi final. Springfield Ramblers from Cobh awaited the boys in the semi final and Corkbeg were quite superb in this game. Goals from Josh (2) , Tom, and the man from Sars, Jack Mulcahy, saw the lads comfortably in to the final.
So back where we started for the cup final against Leeside and in a blistering start, goals from flying winger Richard Kelly, after great work from Josh, and another great goal from Tom Walsh had the lads 2-0 up after 10 minutes.
But this is a good Leeside team and they calmly fought their way back and the game finished 2-2. So onto the dreaded penalty shoot out and despite the brave efforts of the defiant Sam Mac in goal, Leeside won the cup 4-2.
A great performance from all 13 of lads on Sunday and the season ahead promises to be very exciting for this great bunch of guys.
