Corkbeg Unlucky In Cork

Ryan Forde played well for Corkbeg

Corkbeg travelled to St Aidans, Ballyvolane last Thursday evening to play their penultimate league game in AULDiv1A, but came away empty handed, as they were beaten 3-2 by home side Glenthorn Celtic ‘B’. Both side had nothing to play for in this division, but they still served up an entertaining encounter on the night.

Corkbeg played really well on the evening, in fact, it was one of the better performances this season. And yet, luck was not on their side, as they found themselves two goals down within a half an hour, a scoreline that remained until half time, but the general consensus was that the Beg should have been at least level.

The second half was only ten minutes old, when Damien O Driscoll pulled a goal back for Corkbeg. But, only 5 minutes later, Glenthorn regained their two goal lead from the penalty spot, despite the best efforts of Eric Higgins in the Corkbeg goal. But Corkbeg played really well in the second period with Tom Smyth & Steve O Halloran in top form at the heart of the defence and Rob Fletcher & Ryan Forde all heavily involved. Towards the end of the game, Corkbeg missed some great opportunities from Ryan Forde, Rob Fletcher & Jordan Ryan and they also struck the post. Jordan Ryan pulled another goal back for Corkbeg with five minutes remaining to set up a grandstand finish. But there was no further scoring and Glenthorn grabbed the 3 points, despite an outstanding Corkbeg performance on the night.
