Corkbeg Schoolboys – The Season So far

Jordan Tynan, 2 more goals at the weekend.

Jordan Tynan, 2 more goals at the weekend.

This season, Corkbeg have 3 underage teams involved in the Cork Schoolboys League at U-14, U-13 and the non-competitive U-11 team.

Corkbeg U-14 Team:  The U-14s didnt take any points from either of their opening 2 league games this season against Avondale and Midleton, despite playing really well in both games. But in the past few weeks, they have hit a purple patch of good form with victories over Blarney and Churchvilla away from home, Carrigtwohill at home and an excellent 2-1 win over league leaders Leeds at the weekend. Jordan Tynan from the U-14 team has scored 8 league goals to date and also been called up for training by the Cork U-14 side, which is a fantastic achievement. Hopefully, the good run will continue against Macroom next week….if the good work over the last few weeks continues, maybe some silverware could be heading south at the end of the season

Corkbeg U-13 team:  The U-13 team are flying at the moment; currently unbeaten in their section, a feat which has them sitting pretty at the top of their league with a 100% record. 5 wins from 5 games including a 9-2 thumping of Cork side Evergreen. Star man Alan Hogan has already scored 13 goals this season and like Jordan Tynan at U-14 level, Alan has been called up to train with the Cork U-13 team. Keep up the good work lads! Dare we say, another team with a great chance of taking major honours from this season.

Corkbeg U-11 team:  The U-11 team are playing in the non-competitive CSL U-11 leagues and won their first 4 games of the season in very convincing fashion, including a big 9-0 win against Avondale. A 6-1 away defeat to Park Utd in Mitchelstown derailed them slightly but hopefully, it’ll only be a blip. The bad weather over the last few weeks means that they havent had the chance to ”get back on the saddle” after this defeat. The majority of these players came through from our academy section last season, where they previously played in the Small Sided Games series at the tail end of the 2010-2011 season and are a team showing great potential.

Corkbeg Academy- Corkbegs Academy takes place every Sunday morning at 10a.m. at the club grounds in Whitegate. The Academy aims to give kids an enjoyable introduction to soccer and caters for anyone from age 6 to 10. All new members are welcome, so don’t be strangers, we don’t bite!!!!
