Corkbeg put the weekends disappointing result against Glenthorn behind them, with a hard-fought 6-3 away win over Knockraha ‘A’ in Glanmire on Tuesday night. As with Saturdays result, the game was far closer than the scoreline may suggest, but there is also no doubt that Corkbeg deserved their win on the night.

Corkbeg took an early lead, when Jordan Tynans well struck shot across goal was deflected past the Knockraha goalkeeper. But Knockraha equalized soon afterwards from a header. In a high scoring game, Tynan struck again to give the Beg a 2-1 lead, cutting in from a narrow angle and firing past the goalkeeper into the far corner. Then, a big turning point. Tynan turned villain, but taking down a Knockraha player in the penalty area, but Corkbeg goalkeeper Eric Higgins produced a stunning penalty save from an absolute thunderbolt. It was however, a shot reprieve for the Beg, as slack marking in the penalty area allowed a Knockraha player to head home the equalizer before the half time whistle.

Knockraha took the lead for the first time early in the second half and held this lead until 15 minutes from the end. But it was 3-3 on 75 minutes, as Corkbeg substitute Fred Wenham got on the end of an Aidan Cotter ball to head home and tie up the game. And that goal finally broke the Knockraha resistance. Jordan Ryan gave Corkbeg the lead from the penalty spot, before grabbing his second goal soon afterwards with a close range header. Ryan completed his hat-trick in the final minutes, winning a crunching tackle and firing past the Knockraha goalkeeper to round off a deserved victory for the Beg. Next game is away to Springfield on Sunday morning.
