Corkbeg were beaten 2-1 by Springfield in AULDiv1A on a wet Sunday morning in Cobh. If ever a game could be described as a game of two halves, this could be it. Springfield probably just shaded it, but Corkbeg will feel unlucky not to have grabbed a draw.

The home side dominated the opening half, playing downhill into the clubhouse. They were a big physically imposing side and played some lovely football. Springfield also had the better chances in the opening half, with a Luke Wilson piledriver from 30 yards forcing Eric Higgins into a decent save and centre back Sean Wright forcing another good save from Higgins with a close range volley. Jordan Roberts looked lively for Corkbeg, while Tom Smyth, Aidan Cotter & Jordan Ryan were also heavily involved. But the pressure finally told on 35 minutes, when an inswinging free kick was only half cleared and Luke Wilson fired a screamer from the edge of the penalty area high into the roof of the Corkbeg net. Corkbeg did have some speculative shots from Cein O Driscoll & Jordan Ryan, but they were comfortably saved by Springfield goalkeeper James O Donoghue.

Both teams were very evenly matched though and Corkbeg took the game to the Cobh side in the second half. Ian Casey started to dominate in midfield and both Colin Horgan & Alan Horgan raided regularly. At times, the Cobh side couldn’t get out of their own half, but crucially they were very well organized and they mostly restricted Corkbeg to half chances. Jordan Roberts shot narrowly wide on two occasions and Alan Horgan fizzed a couple of super balls across the Springfield area, but the goalkeeper was never worked. Corkbegs big chance arrived on 75 minutes, when Dylan O Neill cut in from the Springfield right and teed up Jordan Ryan from 10 yards, but he fired over the crossbar. Substitute Evan Barry went close soon afterwards for Springfield, but Eric Higgins was out bravely to smother his attempted shot. On 85 minutes, Springfield made the game safe, when Eric Higgins pulled off a super stop to deny a point-blank shot by Paul Ronan, but the ball ran loose for Dave Cummins, who blasted home from 3 yards. It was their only effort on target in the entire second half. Corkbeg grabbed a consolation in the 90th minute, when Jordan Roberts shot across goal was turned into his own net by Paul Ronan. However, Corkbeg could not conjure up an equaliser in the dying minutes and Springfield grabbed a vital 3 points.
